My Statement

I would like to announce my candidacy for Secretary of the Urban Planning and Policy Student Association at the University of Illinois at Chicago. To this role, I will not only bring my valuable skills and background, but also a passion for enhancing the experience and opportunities of the students in our program. In addition to keeping the minutes and taking notes at board meetings, a secretary serves the important function as switchboard for the emails and information that all of us receive from UPPSA. Having a strong secretary is the difference between getting bombarded with an unmanageable amount of information, versus receiving reasonable amounts of information that can lead to new opportunities. In my 3 years of work experience in the fields of journalism and publishing, my public relations role as a member of the Urban Innovation Symposium team, and my collaboration with Vice President Sara Amaral on the Urban Planning and Policy Student Association website, I have developed the necessary skills for managing quality communication with our student body. In addition to the established role of Secretary, I am interested in enhancing the place of the UPPSA website as forum for displaying student projects and generating collaborative opportunities amongst students.

            The Urban Planning and Policy Student Association is one of the strengths of our program. As Secretary, I would pledge to preserve the high standard set by previous boards, as well as working on innovative strategies for expanding student opportunities and involvement.
